At Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre (BAWC), safety remains our highest priority. We are pleased to introduce Lynxight, an AI-powered drowning prevention technology that adds an extra layer of safety to support our lifeguards and help keep our community safer in and around the water.

The Lynxight system uses surveillance through cameras, supported by artificial intelligence, to provide real-time monitoring, risk detection, and instant alerts across our 50m pool, Leisure Pool, and Warm Water Pool, enabling lifeguards to respond faster to potential emergencies. This technology also uses AI to interpret data and continuously improve through algorithm training.

As part of the system, lifeguards are equipped with smartwatches linked to Lynxight’s alert platform, providing immediate notifications in critical situations. Lynxight is already in use at more than 75 pools across Australia and works alongside initiatives such as the Royal Life Saving Australia collaboration to strengthen drowning prevention efforts. While this technology enhances our operations, it does not replace our existing safety practices, with BAWC continuing to meet the high standards of Life Saving Victoria’s Platinum Pool Program.

As part of this initiative, Brimbank City Council uses surveillance to enhance safety, improve operational response, and support staff in preventing incidents.

Information collected through this system may be disclosed to relevant authorities, regulatory bodies, or service providers where required for safety, operational, or legal purposes.

Individuals have the right to request access to their personal information collected through surveillance, noting that data is only retained for a limited period. For more information, please contact Brimbank Aquatic & Wellness Centre or scan the QR code below.

Frequently asked questions

Safety is our top priority. Lynxight provides an additional layer of protection by detecting potential drowning risks early, ensuring faster response times and improving overall supervision in the pool. With growing adoption across the country and support from industry bodies, we expect this technology to become the new industry benchmark for aquatic safety.
Not at all. Lifeguards remain essential to pool supervision. Lynxight is a support tool that enhances a lifeguard’s ability to respond quickly by providing instant alerts for potential risks. The cutting-edge technology is here to combat blind spots caused by water glare, crowds or water surface disturbance. Industry bodies, councils, and aquatic operators nationwide emphasise that AI is there to strengthen the prevention and rescue role of lifeguard, not replace them.
Lynxight is focused on safety, not surveillance. It does not record high-definition video for surveillance purposes. The system focuses on movement detection and does not identify individual swimmers or capture any identified personal data.
All data is stored encrypted, secured, and regulated. Lynxight are fully compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (DIN EN), the Data Protection Act (DPA 2018), The Australian Privacy Principles (APP), ISO 20380, and DGfDB (R) 94.15 standards.
No, Lynxight operates seamlessly in the background, and your experience at the pool will remain the same.
